OK, this one wowed us all. Parentage is (Wise Whiskers X unknown); seeds I believe were from Mike Halloran, and grown by Ed Thaubald before he sent the plant to Duluth as Ethan's selection. What we anticipated was simply a nice peachy-orangey-yellowish toothy bloom, but we got more than we bargained for. The original plant was divided and planted in two locations in 2021, and the first blooms in 2022 were quite the surprise. After a season here, both specimens produced the occasional normal bloom, but most blooms showed some sort of variation including traits that might be considered cristate, and we observed one polymerous bloom (4) as well. Ethan has a name picked out, but we haven't reserved it yet, as I'm not sure it's quite the right name for this plant. It appears to be dormant, and we know it's tetraploid. Our first measurements put the blooms at 5", and height at 27", but obviously those could change once the plants are more established and mature. Breeding attempts in 2022 suggested the plant is pollen fertile, and pod fertility is more difficult to come by as the pistils weren't always well-formed (or even easy to find!). But, we did get seed out of it, so it is possible!
