Daylily (Hemerocallis) cf. Tarantula
Another very old daylily, at least grown for 20 years before it was given to me. Online groups came "close" with some images of a hybrid called Tarantula, thus "cf.", or confer (latin) or "compare to". But, closer inspection of the specifications of Tarantula suggests this daylily is not that. What I can say is that it has tall, extremely well-branched scapes, with moderately-sized flowers. Pretty 100% sure it's a diploid. Definitely hardy in 4b. The most curious discovery, though, is that approximately 50% of the seeds in pods set on cf. Tarantula contained actively germinated seeds when harvested. This appeared across nearly any pollen parent I used. It's a curious plant, for sure. Also looks a bit like 'Jean' (McDade-Schreiner, 1943), but lacks the prominent light midribs.
